ST PETERSBURG, Russia (AP): How do you stay motivated for the game no one wants to play? England and Belgium have different answers. After both were eliminated in the World Cup semi-finals, a once-in-a-lifetime chance gone, the teams have to play again in today’s third-place game. As always in English football, coach Gareth Southgate and his men are looking back to the England team, which won the World Cup in 1966. Beating Belgium would give England their best World Cup finish since then, surpassing fourth place in Italy in 1990. “We have a chance to win a medal at a World Cup, which only one English team has ever done, so there’s a lot of motivation for us,” Southgate said yesterday. After exceeding expectations by reaching the semi-final, only to lose 2-1 to Croatia in extra time, England want to keep their positive buzz. “None of us knows if that’s as good as it gets,” Southgate said. “We’ve raised expectation and I don’t see a problem with that because we’ve also raised belief. We’ve raised their enjoyment of playing. They now associated playing for England with enjoyment, fun, and not being under siege.” For Belgium coach Roberto Martinez, it’s about leaving Russia with a warm feeling and playing attractive football to inspire the next generation. “We want to win. When you finish a tournament you carry the feeling of the last game … Every Belgian fan deserves that winning feeling,” he said. “For us the way you play is essential, not just for this tournament but for future generations.” Third would be Belgium’s best-ever World Cup performance. They finished fourth in 1986 after losing the playoff 4-2 in extra time to France. Both coaches have one eye on fitness for what will be each team’s seventh game in 26 days. Southgate said he wants to make “as few changes as possible,” but may need to switch some players due to injury and illness. He wouldn’t confirm whether he’d give either of his reserve goalkeepers, Jack Butland and Nick Pope, their first game of the tournament in place of Jordan Pickford. “We need to have everyone fully fit on the pitch. There are players who have played a lot of minutes and we need to have that in mind,” Martinez said. “We’re going to have the strongest team on the pitch but maybe changes will need to be made.” It’s the second meeting of the tournament for the two teams. Their first game, in the group stage, was treated almost like a friendly since both teams had already qualified and made a total 17 changes to the lineup. Belgium won that encounter in Kaliningrad 1-0 thanks to a curled shot from Adnan Januzaj.

0Shares0000MADRID, Spain, February 20 – Lionel Messi hit four goals to inspire Barcelona to a 5-1 victory over Valencia, but the champions still remain 10 points behind leaders Real Madrid.Messi, playing his 200th game for the club, took his league goals tally to 27 for the season and 42 in all competitions although third-placed Valencia had stunned the Spanish and European champions by taking a shock early lead. “The most important thing was that the team played like we did against Bayer Leverkuson in the Champions League in midweek when we won 3-1,” said Messi after his Camp Nou masterclass.“There are lots of crucial challenges ahead and it’s necessary to keep going like this.”Barca coach Pep Guardiola saluted his team and insisted that they do not deserve to be so far off the pace in the title chase.“With the football we have played we don’t deserve to be so far behind but our challenge now is to keep the title race open and that is down to us,” he said.“We need to compete for the next three months just like we have done in this match.“We are lucky to have such a generation of players. It’s a privilege to work with such fantastic lads. They are a credit to the sport.”The pressure was on the Catalan side after defeat last weekend away to Osasuna and they got off to a poor start with Pablo Piatti giving Valencia the lead after nine minutes.Martin Montoya, in the side with Dani Alves suspended, and Gerard Pique left Piatti unmarked and keeper Victor Valdes came and failed to reach a Sofiane Feghouli cross allowing the diminutive striker to tuck the ball in.The home fans were becoming restless but Messi responded once again when his side needed him most with two goals in five minutes.Adil Rami failed to clear a cross and Messi coolly finished from a tight angle. The Argentine then got ahead of the Valencia defence to meet an Eric Abidal cross and while the keeper Diego Alves saved his initial shot, he was able to sweep in the rebound.Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas were both denied by Alves while the former Arsenal player then hit the woodwork with an acrobatic effort. The home side continued to push forward after the break with Alves stopping a Messi header with a wonderful save and Fabregas badly miscued before Messi gave Barca a cushion by firing in a rebound after another Alves block.Messi completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes to go and then notched up his 42nd goal of the season after running clear of the defence and clipping the ball over the keeper. With the Valencia defence in disarray substitute Xavi Hernandez lobbed the ball over the keeper for the fifth in injury time.Despite the rout, Barca are still struggling to retain their title after Real Madrid had swept past Racing Santander 4-0 on Saturday.Levante’s miserable form continued when they dropped out of the European places, losing 5-3 at home to Rayo Vallecano. The modest side from Valencia have spent most of the season among the top four after a surprising start which also saw them briefly lead the table, but they now haven’t won in two months and have tumbled down to seventh place.Lass Bangoura put the visitors ahead but Jose Barkero brought Levante level at the start of the second half with a penalty after substitute Abdelkader Ghezzal was felled by Jorge Pulido.Levante were in the ascendancy but against the run of play Diego Costa hit a quickfire double and then Lass gave them a commanding lead after 69 minutes.Rubin Suarez pulled a goal back and then Andrija Delibasic added a fifth for Rayo. There was still time for Suarez to score again for Levante with a spot kick and Pulido was sent off for a second yellow card after giving away the second penalty.Atletico Madrid squandered the chance to move up to fourth as they were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Sporting Gijon under new coach Javier Clemente.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)

I hope I am here beyond six months but I know have to prove myself.”
THE provisional liquidators of the company run by crook Francois de Dietrich are asking anyone who had dealings with the firm to contact them with details of their transactions. The Ballybofey-based businessman swindled cash out of 200 people in Co Donegal, often over dinner at his fancy Bastille Bistro in Letterkenny. Most of those investors have not come forward. De Dietrich is wanted by police after absconding following his failure to divulge details of his assets to the Financial Services Authority (FSA).He is now believed to have stashed millions of Euro in bank accounts in Switzerland, outside the European Union. There are unconfirmed reports he may also be in hiding in the Alpine state, out of the reach of an EU-wide warrant. The crook was sentenced to an 18-month prison sentence in his absence after he failed to comply with a Northern High Court order obtained by the FSA ordering him to give, amongst other information, details of where his assets were held.We understand the FSA know about the secret Swiss accounts and that was the reason for the application for the location of his assets outside the EU. The FSA had earlier obtained a High Court order restraining any potential unauthorised activity and freezing £20,223,485 assets of Francois de Dietrich and ETIC Solutions Ltd (ETIC).In Dublin, the High Court has frozen almost €2m in the AIB in Ballybofey.Paul Rooney and Dan Schwarzman, both licenced Insolvency Practioners of Price Waterhouse Coopers, were appointed joint liquidators of ETIC last month. They have appealed to “all persons who had dealings with ETIC Solutions Ltd or the director Francois de Dietrich (Consumers) to contact us with details of their transactions.”The order by the High Court in Northern Ireland allows the FSA to preserve the funds and other assets held by de Dietrich and/or ETIC until the court decides whether he has broken the law. The court will also decide how much money, if any, should be returned to investors and other creditors.Meanwhile, the FSA is continuing its investigation into the activities of de Dietrich and ETIC.Any investors in this scheme should contact the FSA either call the Contact Centre on 00 44 845 606 1234 or via email on email@example.com.With the court orders in place, de Dietrich and ETIC may not accept money from, or pay money to, any person as part of the ETIC business. This includes a restriction on paying out funds to investors. He has breached that order on several occasions.WERE YOU SWINDLED BY CROOK? A Donegal woman has sued a couple who were formerly her best friends, claiming a sum of €280,000 she gave to them was a loan – and not a gift, as they maintain. The sum was part of €750,000 secured by Ballyshannon woman Fidelma Kerrigan in 2010 over serious personal injuries she suffered in a road accident in 2002 in which her father died, the High Court heard. It is claimed Ms Kerrigan, as a result of her father’s death and her injuries, was deeply depressed when, two weeks after getting the compensation in August 2010, she handed over €280,000 to John and Jacqueline Keenaghan. She claims it was to help them set up a counselling business or until Mr Keenaghan, an architect, had completed projects. It is alleged Ms Keenaghan was crying as she feared for their home.Independent.ie report that couple have since had their business set up but have not repaid Ms Kerrigan, who is now on social welfare payments, the court was told. The case opened this week before Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy who said it was “never too late” to consider an agreed rather than imposed outcome. She said these “unhappy events” were reminiscent of what Shakespeare said: “Neither a borrower nor lender be.”Ms Kerrigan (59), of Benildus Avenue, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, claims it was agreed at all times the money was a short-term loan. The defendants, of Rathmore, Ballyshannon, say the money was a gift and deny exercising undue influence over Ms Kerrigan. In cross-examination by Desmond Murphy SC, for the defendants, Celine Kerrigan, sister of Ms Kerrigan, denied she had supported the view the money was a gift.A consultant psychiatrist, Dr Mary Maguire, said Ms Kerrigan had said Ms Keenaghan kept asking her about her personal injury claim and allegedly kept telling her the Keenaghan family were going to lose their home and could not afford to eat. When Ms Kerrigan gave the money, she was on medication and had been hurt when Ms Keenaghan had gone on holidays to the US.Dr Maguire said Ms Kerrigan came across as “naive”, “childlike” and “very caring”.The doctor believed Ms Kerrigan had so many problems mentally and physically at the time, she would be susceptible to emotional distress she perceived in another person.Donegal woman sues former best friends over loan dispute of €280,000 was last modified: November 12th, 2018 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:BallyshannonFidelma KerriganHIGH COURTLoan

Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement It’s a little surprising that the Glee app is a free giveaway even to non-subscribers, but that must be because Glamour just wants to get on its customers’ iPhone homescreens for now. The Glamour app also asks, upon first launch, if it can send you push notifications – a move that brings the app even further increased visibility on customers’ sometimes overloaded, app-filled devices. Could other developers use this same marketing methodology to cross-promote their own applications, too? Possibly, but not necessarily on the same level as Glamour has done. Apple typically restricts the number of promo codes a developer can give out to 50 per application version. Glamour must have received special permission from Apple to workaround this requirement. We’ve contacted the magazine for confirmation of this – stay tuned Update: Glamour declined to go on record with the details of how this promotion was made possible. Tags:#marketing#mobile What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Glamour Magazine has teamed up with Smule, makers of the “Glee” fan app for the popular U.S.-based TV show featuring high school glee club singers, in an interesting marketing scheme to increase app downloads. According to the magazine’s website, U.S. residents who download Glamour’s iPhone and iPad application between September 7th and October 30th of this year are given access to download the Glee app, normally 99 cents, for free. Is this a new marketing scheme for app developers to take advantage of – “free app with purchase?” With the ever-growing number of iPhone and iPad applications available for sale in the iTunes marketplace, attracting end users to any particular app is becoming more difficult than ever. Developers have tried a number of marketing initiatives to encourage app downloads, including everything from offering watered-down, “lite” versions of their more full-featured, paid offerings to short-term sales where their app prices drop considerably for a limited time, or even go free. What we haven’t seen much of (if any?) are marketing pushes that involve app giveaways within other apps, in other words “free app with purchase.” But that’s just what Glamour is doing now. In this instance, those who want to get the free Glee app have to be one of the first 100,000 U.S residents to download the newly launched Glamour magazine application and then visit the “New Posts” section within the app. (Good news for “Gleeks”: the “New Posts” section is available for free within Glamour’s app – you don’t have to purchase the magazine’s latest issue for $3.99).
